India has got 800 million+ mobile connections and growing. A small device such as mobile has got enormous capability to empower its owner by connecting it to rest of the world. No other mechanism has got such a wide reach or capability to bring mass change. To unlock the potential, there is a need to create applications with social and human touch, which can change the way rural and urban Indians carry their day to day life. Be it paying for the utility usage such as electricity etc, basic Banking, Postal, education services, where rural population tends to suffer a lot today otherwise. Picture is not any better for urban population as well. Affordable smart phones coming in the market and low cost tablets are being promoted by government. It is high time that innovative applications are developed for Indian market in the health, education, safety, public services, payment sector. Developing such application and making it working needs an IT infrastructure, which can support it well. Web2.0 Service phenomenon can be used for such purpose, where web2.0 based services is promoted first and create an echo system for application developer to develop utility services to bring in change and make life easier. We explore the infrastructure that is needed for creating such echo systems, and the innovative applications which can be developed around that.
